Micro-expressions are rapid, involuntary facial expressions that reveal underlying emotional states within milliseconds. These subtle cues play a significant role in shaping first impressions, influencing perceptions of trustworthiness, competence, and emotional authenticity. This article explores the psychological mechanisms underlying micro-expressions, their cognitive processing, and their impact on social judgments during initial encounters. Drawing from cognitive psychology, social neuroscience, and nonverbal communication research, the study examines how fleeting facial signals guide interpersonal evaluations and decision-making. The paper also highlights cultural, contextual, and perceptual limitations in interpreting micro-expressions and discusses their relevance in academic, professional, and digital communication environments.
