Digital technologies have transformed business operations by enabling cloud computing, electronic commerce, remote work, online payments, data analytics, artificial intelligence and interconnected supply chains. However, increased digital dependence has also expanded the organizational attack surface. Cyber incidents can interrupt operations, expose confidential information, damage customer trust and create legal, financial and reputational consequences. This article examines the principal cybersecurity challenges affecting digital business operations and identifies measures for improving organizational resilience. It adopts a conceptual and descriptive review methodology based on cybersecurity frameworks, industry standards and peer-reviewed research. The analysis covers ransomware, phishing, business email compromise, cloud misconfiguration, application vulnerabilities, insider threats, third-party risk, Internet of Things insecurity and artificial intelligence-enabled attacks. It finds that cybersecurity is not exclusively a technical responsibility because vulnerabilities frequently arise from governance failures, inadequate employee awareness, weak access controls, poor asset visibility and insufficient incident planning. Small and medium-sized enterprises face particular difficulties due to limited budgets and specialist personnel. Effective protection requires a risk-based approach integrating governance, asset identification, zero-trust access, encryption, secure software development, employee training, vendor supervision, continuous monitoring, tested backups and incident-response planning. The article concludes that cybersecurity should be incorporated into business strategy and operational decision-making. Organizations cannot eliminate every cyber risk, but they can reduce the likelihood and consequences of incidents through layered controls, leadership accountability and continuous improvement.
